Finding Out (9/17)

My mom had been having pain in her stomach, side, and back for a couple of months and luckily she told her doctor (who also happens to be a close family friend) about it. He had her get an ultrasound, but that didn't show anything. However, the pain kept getting worse. So, the doctor scheduled her for a CT exam on Wednesday September 10th which showed that her spleen was a little enlarged and looked suspicious. Her doctor called her Thursday night and told her that he suspected cancer, but wanted more tests.

The doctor got the extra tests ordered immediately and on Friday the 12th I took my mom to get more tests, including a biopsy. On Monday the doctor told us the news, the biopsy had revealed that my mom had non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. He still didn't know the exact details of the cancer, but he did say that there were several positives.

First, my mom's bloodwork was completely normal, including her white blood cell count. Second, my mom didn't have any of the symptoms of the cancer yet. Both of these point to the fact that they probably caught the cancer really early. Also, the doctor said that my mom is pretty healthy, has lots of energy, has a lot of family and friend support, and has a fantastic attitude, which will all help her defeat the cancer.

So, that is how it has all started. My mom is staying positive and is just trying to prepare herself for the road ahead. We love you mom.
